Minutes January 26, 2010 Meeting

The Salem Township Board of Trustees met January 26, 2010 in regular session at the Township Hall for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. President Kirk Ramsey called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with member Dick Dare present. Mr. Ramsey asked all present to stand and join in a moment of silence to honor Trustee Dick Kilburn who passed away January 14th. Mr. Ramsey led those present in the pledge of allegiance.

Others present were: Bob Glancy, Donald Lynch, Fred Lafollette, Ralph Blanton, Mike Kassalen, Lee Short, Rob Glancy, Woodie Davis, Frank Schlake, Paul Kilburn, Donnie Williams, Fred Vonderhaar and Ron Stratton.

The minutes were read and approved and were posted in the township hall.

Cemetery Update

Mr. Lynch had no new business to discuss with the trustees.

Fire Department – Fred had no new business to bring before the board for the Fire Department.
He mentioned the salt usage and said they were in pretty good shape.
There is a construction meeting tomorrow at 2:00 PM. There is some moisture in the fire house, but it should go away when the fans are installed.

Mike Kassalen didn’t have any new zoning business this meeting. Lee Short mentioned he would be gone for about a month.

Permanent Appropriation Resolution
The Fiscal Officer requested the board approve the following Permanent Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2010:

Dick Dare made a motion to pass Resolution 10-0126 approving the Permanent Appropriations as submitted by the Fiscal Officer to provide for the current expenses and other expenditures of the Board of Trustees of Salem Township, during the fiscal year ending December 31, 2010, and the listed funds be and are hereby set aside and appropriated for the several purposes for which expenditures are to be made for and during said fiscal year. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.

Regional Planning Commission Representative – The RPC sent correspondence requesting the township to appoint a representative to their board. Lee Short was asked if he would serve on the board. He accepted. Mike Kassalen was appointed the alternate.

Fred and Kirk are looking into cemetery pricing. The last update to the township fees was done in April, 2006. Fred Vonderhaar, a trustee from Union Township, was present and gave the board the rates they are currently charging. They will get more pricing from other townships.

Fiscal Business

Approval to Pay Bills
The fiscal officer presented checks #8751 - #8826, #10001-10004 which totaled $211,916.69.
The board examined the bills that were ready for payment and Dick Dare made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.

For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $29,151.63.
This amount included receipts #6626– #6644.

Kirk mentioned that he had some change orders that Ed McCall faxed to him yesterday. He would like to review them with everyone before the 2:00 construction meeting; meet at 1:30 if possible.
They are hoping to be in the new fire house by March.

With no further business to come before the board, Dick Dare made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 P.M. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.
