Minutes March 9, 2010 Meeting

The Salem Township Board of Trustees met March 9, 2010 in regular session at the Township Hall for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. President Kirk Ramsey called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with member Ralph Blanton present. Mr. Dare was ill. Mr. Ramsey led all those present in the pledge of allegiance.

Others present were: Donald Lynch, Fred Lafollette, Mike Kassalen, Woodie Davis, Frank Schlake, Ron Stratton, Lee Short, Mrs. Opperman, Gene Sharpe and Bob Glancy.

The minutes were read and approved and were posted in the township hall.

Cemetery Update

Lynch Request
Mr. Lynch presented a copy of the Ohio Sunshine Law and read a section regarding public records. He then asked about his request from last meeting. Kirk told him they were all sent to Bruce McGary who has not sent them to Mr. Lynch yet.

Neither Mike Kassalen nor Lee Short had any zoning matters to discuss at this time.

Fire Department
Chief LaFollette reported that he had received a letter of resignation from Cory Bower due to his not having enough time to give to the fire department at this time.
Also, he asked that the board approve the hiring of Chris Cormany as a volunteer.
Kirk Ramsey made a motion to accept the resignation of Cory Bower and to approve the hiring of Chris Cormany as a volunteer pending physical exam and drug screen. Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.

The medical director that was recently hired has notified the department that he has taken a job in Florida. He recommended another doctor, Ken Patton, to take his place. The department has been in touch with him and he is willing to take the job for the same amount.
Kirk Ramsey made a motion to hire Dr. Ken Patton to serve as the medical director for the fire department, and to be paid the same amount contracted with the previous director.
Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.

Fred gave the board some information regarding the purchase of a new mower. Kirk told him to check it out.

Patty Higginson called Fred and let him know she was available to return to work at the cemetery this summer. He would like to have her start work March 29th. Kirk Ramsey made a motion to approve hiring Patty Higginson for summer work in the cemetery at the pay rate she was making when she left in November. Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.

Kirk reminded the board that the Warren County Township Association meeting will be this Saturday at 9:00 in Waynesville.

Fiscal Business

Approval to Pay Bills
The fiscal officer presented checks #8920, #8923-#8968, which totaled $65,401.65.
The board examined the bills that were ready for payment and Ralph Blanton made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.

For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $10,392.02.
This amount included receipts #6665– #6675.

With no further business to come before the board, Ralph Blanton made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 P.M. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.
