Minutes January 11, 2011 Meeting

Fire Station Conference Room for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. President Kirk Ramsey called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with members Dick Dare and Ralph Blanton present. Mr. Ramsey led all those present in the pledge of allegiance.

Others present were: Mike Kassalen, Fred LaFollette, Bill Harrison, Bob Glancy, Mr. & Mrs. David Opperman, Frank Schlake, Ron Stratton, Matt Nolan, Lee Short.

The minutes were approved as read and were posted in the building.

Cemetery Update
The Salem Township Board of Trustees met January 11, 2011 in regular session at the Salem Morrow 1/3/2011 Lester Oeder       Sec 5 Lot 9 Center West

Election of Chairman for FY2011
Mr. Ramsey turned the meeting over to the Fiscal Officer for the purpose of electing a chairman for 2011.
Debbie Harper then proceeded to ask for nominations for chairman. Dick Dare nominated Kirk Ramsey. As there were no other nominations, a vote was called. Vote: Dare, yea Blanton, yea Ramsey, yea

Mr. Ramsey then proceeded with the meeting by asking for nominations for vice chairman. He nominated Dick Dare. There were no other nominations so the vote was called: Dare, yea Blanton, yea Ramsey, yea

Change in Prosecutor’s Office
Matt Nolan, a resident of Salem Township, told the board he was no longer with the prosecutor’s office , but was now working with the county auditor as a deputy auditor. If there are any needs from the township, he will be glad to help.

Zoning
Neither Mike Kassalen nor Lee Short had any zoning business to discuss.

Community Comments
Ron Stratton thanked the road crew for the excellent job they had done with snow removal. Fred LaFollette also stated they had done really well with keeping up with the snow.

Fire Department
Personnel Issue
Chief LaFollette asked the board to approve removing Ryan Houk from the active roll. Dick Dare made a motion to approve terminating the employment of Mr. Houk with the fire department. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.           Vote:       Dare, yea      Ramsey, yea      Blanton, yea

Concerning salt, Fred told the board they had enough on hand for 2 more snows. He is trying to keep that much on hand at all times.

Bill Harrison reported they had received around $137,800 from EMS billings in 2010.

Board Vacancy
Mr. Ramsey brought up the fact that there was an opening on the zoning board. He asked Bob Glancy if he would be willing to fill that position. Upon his acceptance Mr. Ramsey made a motion to appoint Mr. Glancy to the Salem Township Zoning Board for 2011. Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.

Mr. Blanton reported that John Poe would like to plant a tree in his dad’s memory on the firehouse grounds. After a brief discussion, the trustees approved this request.

A deputy from the sheriff’s office stopped by to see if there were any problems in the township. He stated he hoped to have the end of year statistical report at the next meeting.

Fiscal Business
Approval to Pay Bills
The fiscal officer presented checks #10032 - #10170, 91000-91002 which totaled $77,884.38.
The board examined the bills that were ready for payment and Dick Dare made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.

For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $2,499.78.
This amount included receipts #6955– #6960.

With no further business to come before the board, Dick Dare made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 P.M. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.
