Minutes October 11, 2011

The Salem Township Board of Trustees met October 11, 2011 in regular session at the Salem Morrow Fire Station Conference Room for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. President Kirk Ramsey called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with members Ralph Blanton and Dick Dare present. Mr. Ramsey led all those present in the pledge of allegiance.

Others present: Frank Schlake, Donald Lynch, Chief Fred LaFollette, Ron Stratton, Mike Velarius, Vicky VonHolle, Kyle VonHolle, Mike Kassalen, Woodie Davis, John Leesemann, Heath Kilburn, Gene Sharpe, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. & Mrs. David Opperman, Sgt. Snelling, Jim Yockey and Matt Nolan.

The minutes were approved as read and posted in the building.

Cemetery

New Business:
Donald Lynch brought up the parking problem at the last meeting. He stated the township need to allow parking for cars with trailers. He was asked to move his vehicle at the last meeting. He stated he has been singled out and discriminated against in this matter. He asked that the township establish a policy for parking.

Sgt. Snelling of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department was present. He reported things were quiet in the township.

Jim Yockey, who deals in solar and wind power options, was present to approach the township on installing solar panels to provide energy for the firehouse. He stated there are investors willing to pay for this project. It would be done as a power purchase agreement. The trustees asked him to put together a presentation of the project and they would look at it.

Woodie Davis commented on the cemetery on Ward Road. The new owners have done a lot to make it look nice.

Zoning
Mike Kassalen, the zoning inspector, turned in one permit for an accessory building.

Fire Dept/Roads
Chief LaFollette had no new business to bring before the board, but there was a brief discussion regarding the salt spreader that was installed on the second road truck.

Ralph Blanton reported on the status of the purchase of the church property adjoining the township hall on Whitacre Drive. He has learned the congregation will need around $2500 for the legal bills before the sale. This could take a couple of months.

Mr. Blanton also reported on the Pontem Cemetery Software and mapping project. Currently Pontem is working on a part for the laptop that will make the software compatible.

Fred LaFollette brought up the matter of the deteriorating brick on the township hall. It will have to be repaired. Kirk Ramsey will call Jeff Morgan to get a price on this repair.

Approval to Pay Bills
The fiscal officer prepared checks #11113- #11173, 91118-91129 which totaled $39,204.33.
The board examined the bills that were ready for payment and Dick Dare made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.

For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $5792.15.
This amount included receipts #7209– #7215.

With no further business to come before the board, Ralph Blanton made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 P.M. Dick Dare seconded the motion.
