Minutes March 26, 2013 Meeting

The Salem Township Board of Trustees met March 26, 2013 in regular session at the Salem Morrow Fire Station Conference Room for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. Vice-President Dick Dare called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with member Heath Kilburn present. Mr. Ramsey was recovering from surgery and unable to attend. Mr. Dare asked Ron Stratton to lead all those present in the pledge of allegiance.

Others present: Chief Fred LaFollette, Mike Kassalen, Ron Stratton, Don Lynch, Assistant Chief Bill Harrison, Lori Hensley, Ralph Blanton, David Opperman & friend, David Briggs and Easton VonHolle.

The minutes were read and approved and posted on the bulletin board.

There were no updates to the cemetery records for this period.

Don Lynch disputed all actions concerning the changes made to the zoning code including the posting of the minutes.

Fire Department/Roads/Cemetery

Assistant Chief Harrison reported they had a good turnout for the fish fry last week. He thought they had served a little over 490 people. He wanted to let everyone know that the Harlan Township Fish Fry will take place this Friday night. He reported there was a large house fire on Monday night and a barn fire on last Thursday. They have been very busy this last week.

Chief LaFollette reported they needed to purchase more salt.
He then commended the fire fighters who were on the job the night of the fire at Skip Hamilton’s house. He said they did a good job in saving the home.
As soon as weather permits he would like to get Patty Higginson and Jon Peters back to work at the cemetery.

Lori Hensley mentioned the Easter egg hunt that will take place at Phegley Park in Morrow on Saturday at 12:00.

Mike Kassalen, zoning inspector, turned in a quote for having the new zoning code printed. For 20 books the cost would be $175.00. Don Lynch requested 5 copies for himself. It was decided more than 20 books should be purchased. Dick Dare made a motion to approve having 25 copies of the updated zoning code printed. Heath Kilburn seconded the motion.

Mr. Kassalen reported that a few of the places that he was working with were getting cleaned up. Mr. Kilburn asked about the property on St. Rt. 123 near Gilmour Road.


The fiscal officer prepared checks #13156- #13205, 91408-91417 which totaled $51,372.06.
The board examined the bills that were ready for payment and Dick Dare made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Heath Kilburn seconded the motion.

For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $33,799.60.
This amount included receipts #7754– #7778.

With no further business to come before the board, Heath Kilburn made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 P.M. Dick Dare seconded the motion.
