Minutes July 15, 2014 Special Meeting

The Salem Township Board of Trustees met July 15, 2014 in a special session at the Salem Morrow Fire Station Conference Room for the purpose of transacting business related to proposed tax levies. President Heath Kilburn call the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. with members Kirk Ramsey and Ralph Blanton present. Mr. Kilburn led all those present in the pledge of allegiance.

Others present: Chief LaFollette, Assistant Chief Bill Harrison, Susan Ramsey, Kirk Ramsey, Jr., and Ida Ramsey.

Heath Kilburn stated that the special meeting was called for the purpose of adopting a resolution to request the auditor to certify the current tax evaluation for Salem Township and the dollar amount of revenue to be generated by a specified number of mills.
After a brief discussion about what a levy funds would be able to provide for the fire department and other related questions from the board to the Fred and Bill, Ralph Blanton made a motion to pass Resolution 14-0715 to request the county auditor to certify to Salem Township , (1) the total current tax valuation of Salem Township, Warren County, Ohio, including the Village of Morrow, Warren County, Ohio, and (2) the dollar amount of revenue that would be generated by a specified number of mills that amount being 6.5 mills. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.
Vote: Mr. Blanton, yea Mr. Ramsey, yea Mr. Kilburn, yea

Motion passed and the resolution will now be taken to the auditor’s office.

In other levy matters, the township, as the being the taxing authority for the Salem Township Public Library, has received a request to approve the library board’s request to place a renewal of the current one half mill levy on the November 4, 2014 ballot.

As there were no objections to this request, Kirk Ramsey made a motion to approve Resolution 14-0715A that as the taxing authority for the Salem Township Library, and whereas, the Salem Township Public Library has certified the need for the renewal of a levy in the amount of one half mill, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of Salem Township to approve the levy request by the Board of the Salem Township Library. Mr. Kilburn seconded the motion.

With no other business to come before the board, Mr. Blanton made a motion to adjourn at 6:10 P.M. Mr. Kilburn seconded the motion.

With no further business to come before the board, Kirk Ramsey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 P.M. Ralph Blanton seconded the motion.
