Minutes August 22, 2017 Meeting

The Salem Township Board of Trustees met August 22, 2017 in regular session at the Salem Morrow Fire Station Conference Room for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. Vice-President Heath Kilburn called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with member Susan Ramsey present. Mr. Blanton was out of town. Mr. Kilburn led all those present in the pledge to the flag.

The trustees read the minutes and Susan Ramsey made a motion to approve the minutes from the August 8, 2017 meeting. Heath Kilburn seconded the motion.
Vote: Mrs. Ramsey, yea Mr. Blanton, yea

Zoning - no zoning report for this period.

Chief Harrison reported that the new bulletin board had been installed for township notices.

Fire Department
Chief Harrison requested that Richard Hargis be removed from the active roll of fire department employees. Susan Ramsey made a motion to remove Richard Hargis as an active fire department employee. Heath Kilburn seconded the motion.

Chief reported that the LED lighting project had been started and pointed out the lights in the meeting room that had been changed. It did make a big difference.

Chief Harrison reported the department took place in an extrication training to show BWC the equipment they are using. He has applied for a $40,000.00 safety grant from BWC to use for extrication training/equipment. He also applied for a $15,000 grant for hoods and gloves.

He reported that they had a joint training with Harlan Township on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend was really busy with fire runs and squad runs. He has posted photos of some of the runs on the department’s Facebook page.

Other Matters:

Susan Ramsey brought up the purchase of small tools. They have not been purchased yet.

A time clock for the township has been ordered, but has not been received yet.

Chief Harrison reported the fire department has ordered 8 sets of protective vests and helmets as needed for times they are called to take part in a dangerous situation, i.e., when a shooter is involved.

He also stated that because the new LED lights are so bright, he had to order shields for the outside lights that are on the far end of the building near a residence.

Paul Kilburn had a survey plot for a home site that he wanted to give to Jesse McKeehan. Heath Kilburn will give it to Jesse. He also mentioned a few areas that need weeds trimmed.

Don Lynch mentioned communication with the township and wanted notices posted in the food pantry and post office.

Fiscal Business

The Fiscal Officer had prepared checks #18600-18654, 92554-92567 which totaled $81,592.15.
The board examined the bills that were ready for payment and Susan Ramsey made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Heath Kilburn seconded the motion.

For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $44,592.94 which included receipts #9558 - #9585.

With no further business to come before the board Susan Ramsey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 PM. Heath Kilburn seconded the motion.
