The Salem Township Board of Trustees met June 10, 2008 in regular session at the Township Hall for the purpose of transacting the business of the Township. Chairman Dick Kilburn called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. with member Kirk Ramsey present. Dick Dare was ill.

Others present were Fred Lafollette, Bill Harrison, Mike Kassalen, Ralph Blanton, Donald Lynch, Mr. & Mrs. David Opperman, Bob Glancy and Lee Short.

The minutes were read and posted in the township hall.

Cemetery Update
There were no updates in the cemetery for this time period.

Executive Session
At this time a motion to adjourn into Executive Session to discuss legal matters was made by Kirk Ramsey. Dick Kilburn seconded the motion.

Kirk Ramsey made a motion to adjourn out of Executive Session and return to the open meeting at 7:20 P.M. and it was noted no action was taken. Dick Kilburn seconded the motion.

ZONING
Donald Lynch
Mr. Lynch asked about the papers he had submitted at the last meeting. The trustees told him they would not accept any zoning complaints this evening and that he needed to take the matter up with the zoning inspector.

Fire Department
Fred had the contract for the architect services for the fire house project. Bruce McGary had gotten all matters worked out and it was ready for signatures. The trustees signed it and Fred will make sure it gets to McCall-Sharp.

Fred requested the board approve the hiring of Ted Coates. He has come up through the cadet program and graduated from the firefighter program. Dick Kilburn made a motion to hire Ted Coates as a volunteer pending the usual drug screen and physical exams. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.

Roads/Crew

Kirk Ramsey reported he had talked to Dave Gulley from the county and was told that they had not accepted Morrow Meadows yet. The bond has not been released. He said he asked Mr. Gulley to let the trustees know if they plan to release the bond.

Kirk also brought up the cemetery records. He suggested that the fiscal officer look into getting a program to keep the records in order and up to date.

Fiscal Matters

The Fiscal Officer requested that the budget hearing for Fiscal Year 2009 be held at the July 8, 2008 meeting in order to meet the July 20th deadline to have the approved budget to the county auditor.
The trustees agreed on this date.

The matter of the pooled group for Workers Compensation was brought up. The Fiscal Officer suggested continuing with the Frank Gates Company. Dick Kilburn made a motion to continue in the group rating pool offered by the Frank Gates Company. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.

Approval to pay bills
The fiscal officer presented checks # 6505 through #6555, 98016-98017 which totaled $43,343.92
The board examined the bills that were presented for payment and Dick Kilburn made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Kirk Ramsey seconded the motion.

Receipts
For this reporting period the fiscal officer deposited receipts in the amount of $60192.13.
This amount included receipts #6095 through #6111.

With no further business to come before the board, Kirk Ramsey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:35P.M. Dick Kilburn seconded the motion.
